Time for Winter Warmer Recipes
The colder, darker nights are drawing in and the Christmas decorations will be on sale in John Lewis in no time. So I thought I'd do a round up of some of my simple winter-warming recipes. We all get a little depressed when the Summer draws to a close, so take the edge by rustling up some great tasting food!
Cottage Pie Recipe and Pizza Base Wraps
This week is groundbreaking as I've already performed two culinary experiments with a Cottage Pie and Pizza with alternative type of base - Whoopah!
September update - I'm back!
So, a lot's been happening of late! For regular followers you may have noticed FitBrits.com has now been rebranded to WarrenNash.co.uk. The reason for the change was to reflect a little bit more about myself. After all, you want to know where your food is coming from and this way it makes my recipes a little bit more personable - so I hope you like it.
Fresh fish vs. frozen fish - Sea Bream
Up until now I've been an advocate of buying frozen bags of white fish. At the end of the day, it's healthy, it's cheap and works well in recipes like fish and chips. You can also keep it in the freezer so it's ready for when you need it. However, this weekend I decided to treat the other half to a slightly more luxurious Friday night dinner than usual - we got our new bistro-style garden furniture this week so it just felt like the right thing to do to christen it!
Difference between Baking Soda and Baking Powder
If you like to bake, you've probably used Baking Soda or Baking Powder before. But have you ever stopped to think what the different between the two is? Well, let's find out.
Baking Soda
Baking Soda is a single rise raising agent. It'll cause your mixture to rise straight away as soon as acidic ingredients are mixed in. This is evident when you see bubbles forming. However, because it starts rising straight away, you'll have to bake soon after or you'll risk your bake falling flat.
Turkey Cooking Times

Follow this guide showing you how to make sourdough starter from scratch. It'll take a few days to make, however it is a really easy process to follow.
How to thicken soup
There's nothing worse than thin watery soup. So check out my guide on how to thicken soup. I show you two methods by making a roux (with flour) and using potato. None of my methods use cornstarch.
Start by bringing your watery soup up to simmering point. Then follow one of these two methods:
How to mince Garlic
I love garlic and use it in so many of my recipes. Here's my guide demonstrating how to mince garlic cloves nice and fast, using a knife.
It really helps to have a large knife that's nice and sharp. This will help to peel and cut a fresh garlic clove. Remember to curl your fingers so you don't hurt yourself.
How to Bake Bacon
Lets be honest - you can't beat perfectly cooked, crispy bacon as part of a full fry up - especially here in the UK. Here I show you how to bake bacon in the oven with hardly any mess to clean up afterwards.
