Recipe Introduction
If you're celebrating St. Patrick's Day then you MUST try my Guinness soda bread recipe. It's made without yeast and part Guinness, part buttermilk.
Cooking Directions
- Pre-heat the oven to 180c/350f.
- Pour the plain flour, wholemeal flour, bicarbonate of soda and salt into a large mixing bowl. Briefly stir.
- Cube the butter and work it into the dry ingredients with your fingertips.
- When you have a consistency like fine breadcrumbs, make a well in the middle and pour in the buttermilk, Guinness and treacle.
- Mix together with a wooden spoon then your hands until combined and a dough is formed.
- Place on a baking tray lined with greaseproof or parchment paper.
- Make a cross on the top, brush with buttermilk and sprinkle with porridge oats.
- Place in the oven and bake for 30-35 minutes until risen and cooked through.
- Leave to cool and enjoy.
